NEAR EARTH OBJECT TALLY
The numbers of Near Earth Objects recorded below are those listed
by the Minor Planet Center at the dates in question.
The four divisions are:
- ATENS - asteroids whose orbit lies wholly inside the Earth's orbit.
- APOLLOS - asteroids whose orbit crosses the Earth's orbit.
- AMORS - asteroids whose orbit crosses the orbit of Mars but not
that of the Earth.
- PHAs - Potentially Hazardous Asteroids are those asteroids with
a possibility of colliding with Earth at sometime in the future.
The total number of NEOs is the sum of ATENS, APOLLOS and AMORS. Note
that all PHAs are also APOLLOS, but not all APOLLOS are PHAs.
