2007 : 50 YEAR SPACE ANNIVERSARY
- On the 4th of October 1957 the Soviet Union launched Sputnik-1
signalling the start of the 'Space Age'. Although man had been
observing and researching the space environment for long before
this, the launch of the first artificial satellite into low-Earth
orbit did indeed signal the commencement of a new era of activity
and the start of many different endeavours related to a physical
presence in a new realm.
