After examination by several other large telescopes it was found to be spinning every 7.3 hours with a brightness change of 10 to 1. This implies an ectrememly elongated object with estimated dimensions of 400 x 40 metres (extremal values ranging from 100 to 1000m long by 30 to 170m wide). No other body in the solar system has this large an elongation factor (maximum previous elongation about 3 to 1).
It has been wandering through interstellar space for at least millions of years. Its hyperbolic excess velocity is 26 km/s with an eccentricity of 1.2 .
From all measurements it is most likely a rocky, cigar shaped object with a reddish hue. An artists conception is shown below:
Given its high elongation and the observation of a non-gravitational change in its orbit (maybe due to an outgassing event) it was speculated that it might have been of intelligent manufacture (image below). Many radio telescopes were trained on Oumuamua to try and detect any radio emission from the body but the conclusion was that no artificial signals are emanating from its surface.
