REMEMBERING THE CARNARVON TRACKING STATION

The NASA Carnarvon tracking station, which had a pivotal role in the Apollo missions to the Moon, was remembered this year with the release of a book by Paul Dench and Alison Gregg.

The book is titled "Carnarvon and Apollo - One giant leap for a small Australian town" and is published by Rosenberg (2010) with an ISBN of 9781877058974.

Many of the 'trackers' who worked at the station from 1963 to 1976 contributed material for the book. Obviously only a small fraction of this material could be used.

We present here one story written by David Johns, who worked at the Solar Particle Alert Network (SPAN) site at the Carnarvon Tracking Station, and also another shorter story from Peter Davies.
